I have many folks young and old male and female telling what nice car, pretty car etc.
I never know how to respond. All I can says is thanks but what am I taking credit for. I didn’t design, build or restore it. All I did is buy it. What is a good reply?

I think that by saying thanks, you are implying, thanks for saying it is a nice car and you appreciate them saying so.
Alternatively, you could say "thanks for that".
