Sorry if this question has been asked before.... I did search but could not find a thread that matched my issue. I have a new 2019 GT1. With the sunroof closed..does not matter if sunshade is open or closed...I hear this constant creaking. It is not a rattle...more like a creek and it is constant. Does not matter if I go over and bump. Car is going in for first oil change at dealership in a week and was going to have them look at issue. That said, I was wondering if anyone has same issue and if they where able to rectify?

I too have this exact issue.

Seems to go away immediately when the sunroof is either tilted open or slid open.

I believe the sound is comming from some strange friction between the rubber seal and the glass.

It's very frustration.

I had this as well. I attempted to do the grease between the seals but that didnt work so my delaer took the whole thing out and re-seated it and it did help. Its not completely gone but its nowhere as bad. I believe it might have something to do with the railing

Multiple reports have been filed from different owners, including myself, experiencing this issue.

There is no set solution thus far from KIA, however do make it a point to have your dealer check it when you go in for service. Putting grease around the edges makes it go away for a few days, as rain and dirt will render any lubrication useless in those areas.

There has been one Canadian owner who had his whole sunroof replaced (around 4 months ago) and that solved the issue for him. I have had mine looked at three times already and they have "adjusted/tightened" some rail bolts and it has made the noise go away for a few weeks. On my last trip to the dealer (a two weeks ago) to have an alignment and rear tires replaced, I had them looked at it again, as the noise had come back, and the tech stated that the bolts had become loose and that is why the noise came back, he tightened the bolts again and added lock tite this time around. So far the noise has not come back. Will need to drive more in order to have a definitive answer.

Update. Was at dealership..actually two different dealerships and both said they is no TSB and they are aware of the issue but have no "official" resolution. They did grease the rails and tighten all bolts in sunroof but still have the "creaking" issue. Sounds like a plastic bag crinkling over my head all the time. I did notice that if I push the head liner up towards roof near wear it means the sunroof opening around the edges the noise goes away. In my car it is definitely coming from the headliner.

Yeah, I'm starting to suspect the headliner more. I'll probably drop it at some point and see what the attachment looks like. Seems the foam they use between the board and fabric is noisy, and the fabric rubs against the chassis (which isn't surprising).

Went to my dealer today for the sunroof creak.

I demonstrated the creak by simply driving around the building once.

Technical heard the sound, but didn't know what to do about it.

They said I will have to come back another time for further diag...

Frustrated.

This issue for me has been resolved. Here is the fix. I have a 2019 GT1.

-----------
Pushing up around the edge of the headliner all around the sunroof glass. I used the palm of my hand and gave a solid push all the way around. In two spots I felt and heard a "click".... you could feel the Velcro strips connecting better. Drove the car and now it is quite...not a single creek from up top. This is definitely the issue since I could reproduce the noise every day during normal driving. It has been a few days now and the noise is completely gone. I did let the dealership know what the fix is for future reference for others.

Had the car at two dealerships and neither could fix issue. They tighten all the bolts on the rails... grease the rails and told me they could not fix issue without ripping apart sunroof. I called them today and told them the fix for their records.

All that said, for all those that are hearing a plastic type crinkle sound from above your head.... not a rattle of metal.... and if you open sun shade or glass or tilt glass and non of that makes the sound go away....then most likely your fix is a 30 second push of the headliner where it meets the opening (all around) listening and feeling for a "click" sound is all all you need to do.

@ luv2 drive, I have the same issue with the creaking noise comming from the headliner, mine is close to the drivers side by the handle. I too have brought my Stinger to two dealerships without any luck so far. The car is back in for a 4th time to see if they can figure it out. I will communicate your finding to them in hopes that this will resolve my issue. Thanks for posting a possible solution for me.

You can do it yourself. Takes a minute. Just use palm of hand and push up around the edge of the headliner all the way around. Need to push with a little force...you will feel the clips snap if they are not quite in place. In my case was two spots that snapped in and was quite ever since. Once they are pressed in you will not have to do it again :) There are hard plastic Velcro type parts all along the headliner edge where it meets the roof.

Yes I'm sure I could, but had dropped it off earlier this morning before I read your post, I let them know what you did yo resolve yours, hopefully mine will be resolved in the same manner. Thanks again for your help, and I'll post the results as soon as I hear back from them.

My issue is NOT resolved...

Today dealer essentially told me this is NORMAL...

This is not normal.

The 2020 Kia Optima they gave me as a loaner didn't make any noises at all from the sunroof.

This is very frustrating.

Did you try my fix above about pushing up on headliner with palm of your hand? Been weeks since I did fix and it is still quite.

Where exactly? My headliner all seems perfect.

The noise is gone 100% when the sunroof is open.

This is the sounds I have.

In this video you will hear generic roadnoise (constant hum) and all other noises are from the sunroof - driving on a nearly perfectly smooth road.

Joined this forum mainly to thank you directly for this post. I believe this has resolved my sunroof/headliner issue as well, after 2 separate dealers said everything was hunky dory, which it wasn't. Shakedown run to follow but since I had the exact same 'crinkly' noise as you and I experienced identical "velcro" feeling engagement in 2 separate, opposing spots (no clicks - clips were engaged, but the velcro feeling thing was very apparent as opposed to the rest of the sunroof perimeter) when doing your "push up on the headliner" method I'm confident in the impending results. Anyway, thanks for the suggestion.

No problem. Glad the fix worked for you. Congrats on your new GT2. Sometimes we get lucky and the fix is a simple 30 second effort. My cabin is very quite now on my 2019 GT1. Only other issue I had was with the Radio....second day I ownership I lost all sound... no radio...no bluetooth...nothing. Turns out after car sat for 20 minutes and then restarted it would resolved itself to only happen again in a few days. Again the solution was simple... turning off the Quantum Logic option in the setup. Something about the Harmon Kardon software with that option hangs up the audio in the system. Thought I mention :)
