Since I've owned my car I've taken it to kia to service the 3.3 but I've just built a new shop complete with lift and I'll start servicing it myself, that being said my question is what oil should I use, the thin weight that kia uses or something a little heavier? I live in the southeast US where we really don't have much of a winter and very hot summers

Use the recommended. Engineers test to an environment of 120deg F since car is sold world wide. Y'all ain't THAT hot - it is the humidity ;)

Thinner oil yields best fuel economy and performance. Unless you see oil pressure below spec, you will be fine.

What is the thin weight that your Kia dealer uses?

I have no clue what the Kia owners manual says, but Genesis gives you a chart based on temperatures. I personally use 5W-30 fully synthetic of course.
