Is it safe to store things on the rear cargo tray?

How much weight can we put on the rear cargo tray? I ask because my wife likes to throw the diaper bag and purse back there.

If it's light enough it should be fine. I've thrown heavy jackets and stuff back there all the time.

This is good to know. Each bottle water in the US is about 17oz, which makes that 34lbs.

I’ve thrown multiple bags of topsoil in the trunk but I wouldn’t trust even putting a tissue box on that cover. I hate hearing things slide around in the car

It's safe to put anything on the cover that you don't mind if it hits you in the back of the head. For myself, one tee shirt is my limit.
