GT and GT1 versus GT2 transmission paddle shifting

I own the 2019 GT1 AWD. I didn't know it at the time when I bought the car, but because the GT and GT1 models have the "mechanical" transmission gear change and the GT2 as the "electric" transmission gear change, I can throw my GT1 into "manual" mode by moving the shift level to the left slot for manual shifting.

By doing this and then using the paddles for shifting on steering wheel, the transmission always stays in "manual" mode. Yes it will shift down to 1 when you come to a light, but it never goes back into "auto" drive mode. You have more control.

I actually love the feature of staying in manual mode.... but still would like the GT2 HUD and surround view in the screen for parking. It is give and take :)

Because we all have busy lives and none of us can keep up on everything? lol

And that's the great thing about forums like this one, where we can share info and learn together. (y)

Personally I like the mechanical transmission, The electric trans. has problems, like not going into gear an I don't want to look like a fool trying to put my car into gear. I'm old school that way, when I shift I want to feel it go into gear.

Honestly only thing I miss is rain sensing wipers, lol! But really I do, bad enough I’m gonna see if I can retrofit them!

Having the GT2 I find it annoying at trans. will not stay in manual. Sometime it will not upshift if starting out in manual. It thinks it knows best.
IMHO

Also you can’t move the car with the door open and engine running. Have not tried it with engine off.

The reason it does that is because of the shift by wire, that was one of the main reasons I didn't get the GT2. The GT1 you pull the shifter towards you and it stays in manual mode.

Wow, this is exactly why I hunted down the color combo and GT1 package at a dealer 30 miles away, when there is a dealer 3 blocks away....smart move all of us! I had driven a G70, a bit more sporty, but the same shifter issue as the GT2 and lacked the the versatility of the stinger. The way to gooooo.....
