- 2020 Stinger GT
Two weekends ago, I took Molly the Mazda (6) in for an oil change, tire rotation, and replacement of all front lights. The lady working the service desk said it'll be about two hours. $88 dollars later, I was satisfied about the cost of the work being done. This satisfaction wasn't nearly what I got out of sitting in the showroom...
The Hyundai and Mazda dealership in Rapid are connected and they have the same service bays. The show rooms are separated so I obviously went to the Hyundai lobby (Genesis dealer also). I saw a G80 in the showroom and didn't think much of it. I knew it had an optional V8 but that doesn't get my fluids pumping as do LSX's/LT4's. I go and sit, turn on Top Gear and immediately get on my iPad to look up some forums. I was rudely interrupted by a woman sitting next to me that had family down in Ft. Lauderdale and Irma was about to hit. I felt bad for the woman because I didn't want to talk and she kept going and going.. I realized she would keep talking if I put my head down into the iPad so I talked with her until her car was done. It was a friendly conversation and I enjoyed it by the time we got done.
I noticed the G80 was sitting there and said the hell with it, I'll go have a look. It looked a bit more sporty than a base model would so I asked one of the sales guys if I could have the key and take a look around it. I popped the hood thinking this is some measly V8 that is extremely restricted as I did with the 4.6 V8 and the 5.0 R-Spec V8 in the first-gen Genesis'. I noticed it wasn't a V8 nor a 4 cyl turbo. It was what we are all waiting for... The 3.3TT
Now before I indulge us into what I remembered, Car and Driver did a review on the G80 with the 3.3 which I have a link to below.

I asked the guys if they would let me take it for a spin. I told them I wasn't interested in this but that I will be in the market come Stinger release. They told me they had it in the showroom for that exact reason: no joy rides. I understood where he was coming from but man, I wanted to fire that thing up and go through the gears with it. He was pretty cool about the whole thing. We sat and looked up some news for the Stinger and half of the sales guys still only knew about the Stinger prototype that came out about 2 years back (I think?).
It was a very nice service trip and gained a bit of knowledge on the 3.3. The G80 has the same output (365hp/376ft lbs) but weighs about 500 more pounds. Now, if you even opened the link I have attached above, you will notice performance numbers.
Zero to 60 mph: 5.0 sec
Zero to 100 mph: 12.5 sec
Zero to 140 mph: 27.7 sec
Rolling start, 5-60 mph: 5.7 sec
Top gear, 30-50 mph: 2.8 sec
Top gear, 50-70 mph: 3.6 sec
Standing ?-mile: 13.6 sec @ 104 mph
Top speed (gov ltd, mfr's claim): 149 mph
Braking, 70-0 mph: 180 ft
Roadholding, 300-ft-dia skidpad: 0.84 g
This gives us a very very optimistic look at how the 3.3 will perform in the Stinger. Take away 500 pounds on any car and it is like you took all the mountains off the Earth; still heavy (4100 lb Stinger) but tremendously more willing and more able.
Moral of the story, go to your Hyundai dealership, find a G80 with the 3.3 and drive it. You will get a feel for how the motor will perform in the Stinger. I will be stopping by the dealership if I see it sitting outside so I, too, can indulge in the fun. If you like it in the G80, imagine what you'll think behind our car!
