For giggles I thought I would do a quick comparison between my rental Charger R/T and my GT2. I was prepared to hate the charger, since I've never been impressed by them, but I was wrong, it's not THAT bad.
For a big boy, the Charger can actually dance a little. I expected it to be a boat, but it doesn't embarrass itself going around corners at all. It's the overall size that ruins it; the Stinger shrinks around you but the charger is just so huge you'll never feel confident. That, plus the seats are as flat as pizza boxes, and you'll slide around like one too when you corner. Getting back in the Stinger, it felt like a cozy coupe in comparison, with seats that hug you.
As good as the Stinger sounds it will never compete with the Hemi; that V8 just sounds nasty at startup and during acceleration. If the rumored V8 Stinger ever becomes a reality, hopefully they'll prioritize the exhaust note and give us something mean sounding. That said, the hemi seems to be mostly bark; after ~4k rpm it's wheezing, so I have no doubt the Stinger would pull away from it. It's surprisingly efficient though, I averaged 22 mpg in mixed driving, whereas I've yet to crack 20 in the Stinger.
All in all, it wasn't that bad. Reviewers say it's not a direct Stinger competitor but I'm sure someone will cross shop at some point. The things that could sway them to the Charger are greater interior room, better incentives and, in R/T form, that sweet sounding hemi. But if they want a faster, more fun to drive car, they'll go with the Stinger.
