2021 GT1... Type of gas

My first post, so be gentle...


Recently bought a 2021 GT1. I know what the manual says about recommended gas and octane, but is anyone deviating from that? If so, what is the lowest that you can get away with?

These seem like they have real little gas tanks and I'm spending a lot of time at the pump.

You can run 89oct in it but 91 or 93oct is better. Unfortunately you don't buy this car for good gas mileage, the best I got ON THE FREEWAY was 30.8mpg coming back from Henderson Nevada driving in ECO with the cruise control set at 75. If you drive in the city a lot your MPG is going to suck..

Thanks for the response. Right now it's winter, so letting the car warm up and de ice is necessary so i was curious if lower octane would hurt anything right now.

Not going to hurt anything, but you will lose some performance.
Now if you took it on a track with some 87 in it that would not be a good idea.
Manufacturers know people are going to put regular gas in it.
Personally I only use 93.

I haven't done the cost analysis, but what about lower octane and adding an octane booster?

You can use boostane or Torco but don't use it all the time because through a period of time it will clog your catalytic converter. You can use 89oct for the winter it's not going to hurt anything. After winter i would run some ZMAX through the fuel to clean the fuel system out... I run ZMAX through my car twice a year for the fuel & oil just to keep it running perfect..

Much more expensive.
I've noticed premium fuel tends to vary in price more than regular. Definitely worth shopping around of course I always recommend buying top tier fuel.

Like nearly every car manufacturer, KIA states 87 octane or better.

KIA also states less performance/worse fuel mileage with anything less than 91, so if you think you're spending a lot of time at the gas pumps now ...

Even the engine oil for the 3.3 only has 2 options now. 5w30 and 10w30. The previous years owner manual is different for whatever reason so you’ll get mixed answers. Best bet is follow your manual.

The owner's manual does not state that 91 octane or higher is required, they simply "recommend" 91 or higher. That is world's apart from it being a "requirement", which it is not. You'll get reduced power/mpg, and that's about it.
