oil filter cover cracked

does anyone know if i change the cover of my engine oil filter, does all the engine oil will come through and drain itself ? The cover was stuck and when i did my oil change and when i loosen it, it cracked. I ordered a new one but can i change the cover without draining all the new oil i just put in ? Thanks

If you’re just changing the oil filter cover, most of the oil should stay in the engine. You might lose a bit from the filter housing, but it shouldn’t drain all the new oil. Just work quickly and have a pan ready to catch any drips.
