What's going to be used in your Kia Stinger the most, Android Auto or Apple CarPlay?

Apple for me. Does the car come with both and you pick the one you want or do you have to order the car with one or the other?

I'll be using both, mainly Apple Car play for me and Android Auto for my wife.

It supports both.

Hello all,

Could anyone confirm if the Stinger's Android Auto or Apple Car Play can be connected wirelessly or a data cable must be used.

Cheers!

For Carplay it needs to use the lightning cable.

I was told that for Android, the cable needed to be attached. Android Auto and it's apps aren't behaving properly for me on a Pixel2XL & Android 8.1 right now, so I've not pushed it. LOL

Hopefully Kia fixed the charging issue on the Stinger, in my current Kia the charger isn't strong enough to charge the phone while using Carplay.

Hey Kiagal. That DATA port is not intended to charge your device. It is only intended to "trickle charge" your device while you use the connected functions of the UVO and ACP/AA systems. If you plug in around 80% through that data port, it will keep it around that point while you use your toys. LOL

Yes, with today's charging technology, it'll be a shame if the dedicated charging ports aren't at least the 2x variety. I've not paid attention so far, though.

Android auto as primary and Apple as secondary...

Why can't we connect wirelessly for these to work?

They can't be run wirelessly because of the heavy amount of data transfer. Bluetooth is a light data transfer system.

FYI..

BMW has built-in wireless Apply Car Play via bluetooth as an option for $300.
It works flawlessly with my old iphone 6.

Also, Alpine iLX-107 aftermarket head unit supports wireless Car Play.

The technology is available. Evidently, KIA chose not to implement it in the Stinger..

My old Focus ST can also do Android Auto via BT, the only problem is that it drains the battery way too fast.
