You can pretty much always tell the difference right off the bat. The cheesy vinyls out there never look anywhere remotely close to real carbon, especially when you see them side by side. Hydrodipping is better than vinyl, but there are many different patterns and base coats--and almost everyone who does this type of work just uses the off-the-shelf stuff which is also a poor simulation.
But yes, this engine cover is the same exact type of carbon fiber that's used on other "real" carbon parts like hoods, trunks, spoilers, lip kits, etc. I'll hope to have installed pics and some close-ups of the workmanship by the end of next week.
