Puddle lights installed

Went to the dealer today to have the puddle lights installed. They told me it would take 2 hours. It ended up taking over 5.5 hours. They kept saying 30 minutes more... apparently it was the first set they installed. Love the look though. How were your install experiences at your dealer?

As a former service manager, I see this in a slightly different light (pun intended.) Technicians get paid by the job, not by the hour. If the Kia rate manual allows 2.0 hours for an OEM installation or repair (just guessing from [MENTION=713]Triumvph[/MENTION]'s OP) then that technician lost 3.5 hours of pay that he could have been making on other jobs. Another problem is that most dealerships will have their best technicians doing new car repairs and installations while other mechanics are doing the easy stuff and making fair money for known repairs. Unless the dealership charged you by the hour, I'd be giving that technician a nice tip. That is the kind of work that causes high turnover among the best technicians.

I appreciate your perspective and experience, thank you! My post wasn't intended to be a complaint about the quality of the install. The frustration was the mismanagement of my expectations as it relates to the time the job would take. I had called and scheduled the job and inquired about the time it would take and was told an hour and at the most 2. Then as the job took longer and longer I was repeatedly told 30 minutes more at the most. If I had known the job would take over 5 hours I would have left the car and adjusted my work schedule.

Verdict - Great Product, Great Install, Poor Customer Service

I had the exact same thing happen to me yesterday. Dealer said 2 hrs and 5 hrs later they were done. After two hrs it was "Should be done soon" every half hr.

I recently purchased a Red on red GT2 in South FL, and was surprised to find out that it came with them installed from factory! They had a GT1 in their showroom which also had them installed from factory.

Correct. Dealers can request that they be fitted with them from the port.

I like it. They come on with the interior lights - not the mirror/handle lights - but it's a nice effect.

the lights only turn on when the doors are opened. They remain off when driving.
